“Made in R.F.A.”, a label designed by Dusseldorf-born Stéphanie Hahn looks and sounds like a statement. Deconstructing the latest collection “22/4 Hommes Femmes” what we find is a description of its leitmotif. The arithmetic title “22/4 or 2+2 =4”, for example, places strict emphasis on the precision of her tailoring while “Hommes Femmes” alludes to the genderless aspect of many of the looks.
At a glance, the past collections seem easy and inviting, like basics we could easily integrate into our wardrobes. Upon closer inspection, one discovers the statement details that actually make these so-called basics more outstanding. The gentle ease of the monochrome looks, the appealing color palette, and the fluidity of the fabrics all lend a high quality, high fashion touch to the casual nature of these outfits. Some patches and paintings, influenced by geometric abstractions add a subtle touch of art to the collection.
Although classified as menswear, it doesn’t take a huge imagination to see these looks on women. In fact, one could swap the models with each look and it would not detract from the collection one bit. It’s hard to get too excited about unisex collections as they have been cropping up on the runway with increasing frequency over the years. Still, can you blame us for getting excited? With each unisex collection sent down the runway, the chances of this trend becoming a fixture on the streets is almost palpable.
