Ivanman set the bar high for menswear this season, kicking off the stage presentations Tuesday morning with 13 cohesive looks that demonstrated the young designer’s skillful tailoring, savvy details and eye for proportions. Silk blended knits, simple button ups and tapered trousers anchored the looks, with outerwear that billowed in contrasting proportions. The collection was peppered with collarless outwear, hidden closures, and effortless turtlenecks–classic garments that have precipitously risen to popularity in the last year. The mixture of single-breasted collarless jackets and tapered trousers, reminiscent of 60s mod wear, was reinterpreted and updated with a wider silhouette and a silk blended fabric.
Be it an uncommon belt loop or a complex blazer strap, Ivanman’s offbeat yet cunning details has set the label apart from its menswear peers. The label’s AW 14/15 collection drove this point home with its salient clinical motif, which found expression through exposed stitching on shoulder sleeves that resembled medical stitches and through velcro collars and cuffs that mimicked limb restraints and neck braces. Somewhere in the genius of this mixture, Ivanman has created a unitary collection that is equal parts nostalgic and modern, a seriously strong follow-up to last season’s stunning collection.
