Acrylic has never looked so appealing than in these inventive forms presented to us by designer Gabriella Marina Gonzalez. “Alcyone Dreaming,” her latest collection, introduces a full line of hand-formed acrylic accessories, including ribbon shaped platforms, glasses, and back pack. Formerly a material constrained by its own stigma, acrylic glass has enjoyed some sporadic resurgences in the past decade, not only in fashion but also in interior decor. And nowhere is this more creatively expressed and refined than in Gonzalez’ current works. The Miami native, and St. Martins educated designer has recently relocated her label to Berlin from London, continuing to specialize in zany luxury accessories that embody seemingly conflicting qualities—sinister/sacred, pristine/used, fragile/resilient. Do we smell a new trend? Plexi bondage, anyone?
