Growing up in southern Germany with a guiding desire to discover, product designer Valentin Loellmann has been creating beautiful experimental furniture that, quite literally, takes our breath away. In his own words, “An experience, a mood or a feeling in relation with my direct surroundings can be the impetus to create.” His latest creations are a balancing act between the natural and artificial, reflecting a process of personal interactions with his surrounding. Last week, the designer unveiled a series of furniture pieces and installations entitled “bricks” at the Pavilion of Art & Design. Smooth wooden surfaces framed with plated brass are just a glimpse into a developing work process utilizing various welding techniques to combine solid brass and organic wood. Check it out:
