Berlin Fashion Week S/S 2018

The second day of fashion week brought us a flowery, glamorous and dazzling cocktail party with RIANNA+NINA in the regal atmosphere of Kronprinzenpalais’ garden. The rosy afternoon light topped off an already picturesque scene as soft-footed models in floral, folk-inspired prints walked by, highlighting the duo’s first (and very successful) attempt at print making. 1970s Greece inspirations also made their way into layers of high-waisted skirts, caftans and long summer coats. RIANNA+NINA’s  playful and rather bold approach to prints, colors and fabrics this season was an all-in bet on a bygone, but dearly missed era—one that gets rosier and more remarkable in memory.

The evening of day two took a rebellious and dark turn with shows from Atelier About and Sadak. With an energetic presentation to the pulse of techno tunes, Atelier About centered on censorship and protest as central themes of its SS 18 collection. Energetic looks in basic colors – yellow, red, white and black pressed down the runway, which were surprisingly multi-colored, compared to Atelier About previous collections. Militarism and functionalism are two aspects, philosophically and visually always linked to the label. Sophisticated Kimono and Mao Jackets were combined with some easy shorts and T-shirts, complemented by big Chinese letter prints and the distinctive Atelier About logo. Important details found in straps, pockets and belts bring wearable and pragmatic finishings to experimental PVC skirts and sweaters. Voluminous silhouettes were softened by printed silk shirts and pleated shorts. From time to time, there was a casual glimpse of a naked rear, with pieces exposed in the back and held carefully together by straps and belts.
Variations of PVC shapes and colors were also to find in Sadaks collection this season, like blue, black and cream. Boldly shaped and voluminous silhouettes were followed by soft printed silk shirts and pleated shorts. From time to time, there was a casual glimpse of a naked rear, with most pieces were exposed in the back and held carefully together by straps and belts.
