There is no doubt summer is over. We are all picking up our coats from the dry cleaner and wrapping ourselves in scarves. To make sure you are well prepared we’re providing you with some fall/winter trends, kicking it off today with a rather unusual one.
A recurring element, especially on the Berlin runways, was braces. In a world constantly overwhelmed with horrible incidents or threatening political situations, designers seemingly react by protecting, even better, supporting their customers. At the A/W 2014 collections models were adorned with neck braces or belted, clinical looking corsets. This trend was applicable even to menswear, where So Popular sent models down the runway dressed as dark warriors or at Ivanman, who accented his collection with stiff collars up to the jaw line. On the international circuit brands like Iceberg, Dsquared and Alexander Wang showed more abstract and ostentatious versions of braces, covering up necks with tied-up furs, crystal chokers or simply wrapped silk scarves.
Might look ridiculous? Let’s chalk it up to fashion and embrace the functional aspect of a trend that will, no doubt keep you warm and protected during the cold months.
