With 31 Shows spanning 4 days of fashion, let us take you back to the beginning—day 1 of Berlin Fashion Week. Designer Ivanman opened the first presentation at Kaufhaus Jandorf with a collection inspired by German artist Joseph Beuys, that expressed itself in reinterpretations of vests and elements of workwear. Oversized garments and a palette of cobalt blues paying homage to the boiler suit, a traditional work jumpsuit. Though it got playful when it came to motley laces in bright orange and green, functional coats and tidily tailored suits in blue and black are understood as a reference to classic men’s wear.
In the evening it was all party and play at Nathini van der Meer’s show. With drinks in tow at the entrance, we were invited to have fun, walk around and explore the paintings installed on the walls. ”PHI-LINGS” is the title to the Nathini van der Meer SS 18 collection and it’s indeed about feelings and emotions, incarnating bright, primary colors. As the title might suggest, there was also a link to the mathematical formula ”Phi”, here van der Meer used the golden ratio and interpreted it into silhouettes and proportions. By using experimental fabrics, furthermore followed the theme of experimentation. Never closing out her show, the models were continued to walk around to more music and drinks until the audience left. To sum up the show, it was the golden mean of installation, performance and fashion.
