With Bobby Kolade showing at Berghain, a club notorious for its mystery, our first stop on this second day was the show everyone was fighting to attend. Sleek and sculptural looks pressed down the runway, with the collection, on the whole, outshining the venue. The line-up was comprised of everything a modern woman from the in-crowd could desire: sassy pleated skirts, elegant and fitted trousers, as well as chic jumpsuits and to-die-for tailored coats. Bobby has mastered the art of combining unconventional elements, with bold prints skirting the same catwalk as head-to-toe glitter pieces. The models strutting down Berghain’s hall to the soundtrack of “We have to be stronger” made one thing clear: confident women only.
It was all fun and giggles at the Anna Gorke show this season. With an upbeat presentation on the newest hip-hop beats, the designer lit up our day in the grey midst of Berlin Fashion Week. A possible reason for the models’ happiness – even a humble dance at the end – might have been the fact there were no high heels or tight tube dresses to be traced. Models wore sneakers, comfortable sweater dresses, buttoned-up schoolgirl shirts and elegant parkas, which summarized a youthful collection from a young designer.
Leave it to Malaikaraiss to inject some elegance and minimal design into the Berlin scene. If there’s one thing many young German designers are good at, it’s exacting simplicity to the point of utter excitement. Malaikaraiss is one of the very best at this. Season after season, the designer has insisted on soft palette monochrome looks, with Autumn/Winter ushering in seamless updates that revise what we’ve come to appreciate from her –ease and understatement, oh, and of course a reworked version of the cowboy boot that will knock your socks off.
