About ten days ago, the creative collective and fashion brand Afrobodega, presented their latest in the heart of Friedrichshain, Berlin. The market area of newly reopened cultural space MAAYA (FKA Haubentaucher) located on RAW-Gelände served as the setting for what would become a summer night filled with experimental fashion and a playful soundtrack.
The collection was inspired by the story of Germany’s first black philosopher and namesake Anton Wilhelm Amo.
After their December show in which Afrobodega shed light on the black struggle in Europe during the years of the Human Zoos (1876 – 1931), they explored black excellence within Germany’s high society in the 1800s for this season.
The collective aimed to address the connection between black excellence in racially rejective contexts and developing it into societal performance.
The “AMO” collection continues their radical approach to conceptual fashion and efforts to uncover untold stories about black diasporic communities on European soil.
