Before we jump straight into Berlin Fashion Week, we’d be remiss not to recap “INDEPENDENCE” the aptly named ESMOD Berlin graduation show that we attended a few days ago. In addition to being live streamed through the Not Just A Label website, the show brought with it a renowned jury, which included famous alumnus Damir Doma.
Out of 25 capsule collections (counting roughly 6 looks per designer), two standout collections come to mind: PRCH by Sia Arnika and PILGRIM by Anna Swic.
PRCH” by Sia Arnika.
From the former, we stepped into a world that was all about supersizing. Despite such daring ventures, everything from pants to bomber and lightweight jackets to those beautiful color block backpacks still maintained a wearable aspect. The choice of fabric fell in line with the collection’s sportswear vibe, including the ever favorite neoprene to polyamide and other fully synthetic materials. Pale pinks and deep blues (almost Klein-like for some materials) harmonized well, producing a fresh and edgy sportswear collection that’s hard to forget.
PILGRIM” by Anna Swic
Designer Anna Swic on the other hand, maintained a minimalist take with monotones, clean lines, and metal grid backpacks. Paired with bucket hats and practically positioned pockets, we can only assume that the outfits were created for an urban safari—that is, a stylish one.
