Steinrohner, a new Berlin-based conceptual fashion label founded in 2013, is unlike any other brand in the German fashion market today. With their exo-skeletal structures and unique use of material, they truly experiment with form like no other brand, pushing the boundaries and posing questions about contemporary fashion production.
Comprising the young and talented designers Caroline Rohner and Inna Stein, they both graduated from the academy of art at Weißensee Berlin in 2013 with a master’s degree in fashion design. Their label is founded on the shared desire to not merely create garments, but to evoke emotions through their work, and thereby transfer their wearers to a “world beyond casual constraints”.
Their brand aims to transcend, drawing a fine line between avant-garde design and sensitive structures, evoking narrative and emotion in the viewer and wearer alike. There is a surrealism to their designs, creating a fantasy world through their fluid structures and atmospherically inspired silhouettes.
Their latest collection “Obscure” is inspired by the circus; a world of short intense moments, bursts of energy that are captured and lost simultaneously. A realm of glamour, amusement, and thrill, tinged with mystery and foreboding. The garments are recreations of time old circus costumes, drawing on characterisation to create garments that tell stories. With voluminous silhouettes, obscure patterning, overlaying and unique shapes, typical forms are eschewed for this surreal, super-human world. I have absolutely no idea what lies in stock for their next collection, but I certainly can’t wait to find out!
